I was born in the UK, an apples throw from the River Severn. I've got a lot of love for that river.
I make films, installations, photographic series and write fiction. I really want to understand why life inside The Cloud means that the The Cloud has to live within us too. I begin with coastal locations where subsea fibre optics make landfall, exploring how the infrastructure of fibre optic networks inscribe and intertwine the politics of corporate and national power into landscapes and citizens’ bodies. The work constitutes an ongoing study of the politics of light and the seemingly indelible electronic shadows they cast across the dreams of the human race. I'm currently working with Sabre, cyborg deity of the River Severn, to try and unpick this mess, she suggested that I should speak to the robot sharks. They have been surprisingly forthcoming.
When I'm not knee deep in mud on a river estuary I'm one facet of Back in 5 Squad, we imagine possible futures, taking a tongue-in-cheek look at the post-apocalyptic, the nihilistic, the existential and the revolutionary through the lens of popular culture. I'm currently based @ Pennywell Studios, Bristol.
I've recently been fortunate enough to be awarded the Peninsula Arts Film Commission Prize 2018 i'm gonna be exploring the recordings that SWFTA holds and the technologies that support them enabling me to take glimpses into many pasts, and searching for ways to look back at contemporary trajectories of technologized vision. At least I think that's what I promised.
In 2017 I was given a residency and support to create Severn Sea as a solo show on the banks of the Severn by the awesome Contains Art.
